ガトー・バルビエリは，今となっては振り返られることが少ない奏者のような気がする．1980年頃を振り返ると，イロモノのクロスオーヴァー（フュージョンと呼ばれる前）奏者的な扱いだったような気がする．
やはり1969年からのボブ・シールとのFlying Dutchman時代の連作が，南米音楽やフリージャズの味を入れた（当時の）「新世代のジャズ」としての頂点ではないか．今でも再発が繰り返されている．クリード・テイラーのCTIがクロスオーヴァー・ジャズの旗手であったならば，その裏側で薄暗い虹彩を放っていたような位置づけ．だからCTI的な（当時の）現代性にどうも馴染めない聴き手に存外な人気があったのではないか．
そんなガトー・バルビエリのFlying Dutchman時代以前，1968年の音源の発売が伊Red recordsから発売され驚かされた．スタンダード集ではあるが，瑞々しい新主流派ジャズ．ピアノのフランコ・ダンドレアが，初期のコリア（ゲッツのSweet rainあたり）に通じる清新な響きで良い．
更に第二集が発売され，レコードの到着待ち．
ガトー・バルビエリの楽歴での転機が1969年であることが分かる．日本の奏者が「本場のジャズ」の追いかけから脱出するタイミングと同じ．英仏独はもう少し早いように思うが．
そんな訳でガトーのディスコグラフィーを調べた．といっても，wikiベースに近年の発掘音源(*印)を足しただけである．
