Strata-East設立者のトリヴァーとかカウェルを聴いてみると，まさに1960年代後半の新主流派ジャズをまっすぐ発展させたものであることが分かる．だけど，ボクがジャズを聴きはじめた1979年頃には，勿論レーベルは休止していたのだけど，その流れそのものが途絶えていたように思える．ロフト・ジャズはフリー・ジャズの再生，のような位置付けだし．あえて云うと，チコ・フリーマンとかセシル・マクビーあたりのIndia Navigation盤や，悠雅彦のWhy notが，Strata-Eastの後継的な役割だったように思えるけど，大きな動きにはならなかったように思える．
だから1970年代後半のハンコックのVSOPから1980年代前半のウィントン・マルサリスへの反転，のような形になったんじゃないかな．
結局のところ，1991年のマイルス・デイヴィスの死によって，「ジャズの進化」の呪縛から解き放たれ，それからのスタイルの分散化のなかで１つの要素として再評価され，案外，現代ジャズのなかに彼らの音楽が生きているように思えるが，どうだろうか．
