Bandcampでみつけたアルバム。様々な人によるメルディス・モンク集で、REMIXも含まれる。冒頭は弦楽をバックにしたビヨークによるカヴァー。ECMのDolmen Music収録曲。声量は限られ、音域はモンクよりも狭いが、不思議な情念のようなものが注がれ、奇妙な音ではあるが清澄な水のようなモンクの音が、強い翳り・憂いのようなものを秘める、面白さ。
アート・リンゼイによるカヴァーはノイズ・歪み混じりで、如何にも、という感じ。
驚いたのはヘンリー・グライムスによるオーヴァーダブ。これが実に格好いい。過去の人だという意識がぶっ飛んでしまった。いいベースの音だなあ。
あとヴィジェイ・アイヤー、坂本龍一、テオ・ブレックマンなどなど参加しているが、ボクが知らないDJを含め、無駄なトラックがない。美しく、面白く、そして何よりも 様々な形でメルディス・モンクへのrespectを知るという、とても素敵なアルバム。
